DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGThis typical urban residence is located on a high point of the hill in the area around Aghioi Pateres church, in a quiet neighborhood. It belongs to the type of multi-storey wide-facade apartment-block. The building, as we know it today, is the result of several building phases and additions. The third, fourth and fifth floor, as well as the attic, have been added in different years, as apparent from the building permits kept in the General State Archive of Corfu. In its current form, the block is comprised of a ground floor, four upper floors and an attic. The articulation of the floor plan is adjusted to the steep slope of the ground, hence the ground floor has a separate doorway and is situated below the level of the main entrance of the upper floors, which is accessible through an exterior staircase. Morphologically, the facades are typical of the architectural works of the British Rule. They follow a simple design and are organized by a large number of windows which are rhythmically distributed. The majority of windows have a simple rectangular form, except for the openings along the ground floor, which are crowned with a simple arch, and bear a simple horizontal cornice at the top. There are no balconies on this building. Another notable element is the doorway of the upper floors, surrounded by two pilasters with capitals, which bear a simple arch. Interestingly, all the openings along the narrow facade of the building have been bricked over. Additionally, all shutters have been replaced by more modern wooden louvered French type shutters.
